Responsible Gaming

While games of chance bring pleasure, enjoyment and even a certain euphoria, they can also be addictive. Golden Palace defends a responsible and committed vision of entertainment within the company. The Group has always been particularly attentive to this phenomenon and has put in place numerous resources to anticipate any risks.

EUROPEAN SAFER GAMBLING WEEK 2023

ESGW, or European Responsible Gambling Week, is an annual initiative that brings together all stakeholders in the gambling industry to promote responsible gambling and protect gamblers. This year, this special week takes place from 13 to 19 November 2023.

As a founding member of BAGO, Golden Palace is taking an active part in the initiative. We have always taken gambling seriously and have put in place a series of measures to guarantee a safe and responsible gambling environment for all our customers, both in Belgium and in France.

ESGW - Highlights of the 2023 edition:

♣ Stakeholder’s Day - Tuesday 14th November

All industry stakeholders meet for a press conference. BAGO member gaming operators, including Golden Palace, sign the Duty of Care Convention. This agreement aims to maximise player protection by introducing a duty of care. It's a solemn commitment, a kind of oath-taking that reinforces our determination to protect players and promote responsible gambling. The conference, entitled "Player protection in a digital world", will be followed by a fascinating discussion on the subject of responsible gambling and player protection. Representatives from civil society, the regulator, academia and politics will be in attendance.

The group is also an active and founding member of the Belgian Association of Gaming Operators (BAGO). This association includes the five largest companies in the Belgian private gaming sector. It aims to play a pioneering role in safe and responsible gambling. Its mission is also to preserve the economic viability of the gambling sector and to maintain the attractiveness of the private sector in the face of illegal gambling. Finally, it serves as an interlocutor for the public authorities and the community.

BAGO members have made a significant donation to academic research on safe and responsible gambling behaviours. These funds will enable the team of Professor Xavier Noël, psychologist and researcher at the Faculty of Medicine and teacher at the Faculty of Psychology (ULB), to conduct research on risky behaviours and their prevention.

"By funding this scientific research ourselves, we are filling a gap," Massimo Menegalli explains. Massimo is a member of the BAGO board of directors and CEO of the Golden Palace group. "In the past, Belgian gambling policy could not rely sufficiently on scientific facts. We have long recommended that part of the annual contributions from private operators to the operation of the Gaming Commission be used to fund research. With this in mind, we decided to take the lead."

As an active member of BAGO, Golden Palace is committed to protecting gamblers and groups of vulnerable people. That is why the company joined the awareness and mobilisation action programme. The "We take gambling very seriously" media campaign attests to this.

Access to rooms and betting is prohibited for people younger than 18 years. Entry to land-based or online gambling rooms is only permitted from the age of 21.

Thanks to a strict control policy, those people identified as vulnerable will be denied access. These are people who are excluded at their own request (self-exclusion), people excluded by the Gaming Commission or people in a particular profession.

Enabling customers to play in complete confidence and safety is one of Golden Palace's top priorities. This is why we have put in place various protective measures:

  • Fight against illegal gambling
  • Licensing requirements for venues, equipment and service providers, and staff
  • Staff trained to detect risky behaviour
  • Prevention and support

Whenever a player feels the need, they can easily take a step back and stop playing temporarily. Golden Palace supports this initiative by offering the possibility of self-exclusion from games.

At any time, it is possible for a player to ask for assistance. Various support platforms are available on the online gaming site.
