One beach, more than 50kg of garbage collected in one morning

Last Friday, our CSR Committee joined their Boulogne colleagues in their eco-citizen day.

Meeting together on the beach of Ambleteuse, our employees, along with their loved ones and loyal customers of our Boulogne-sur-Mer casino, rolled up their sleeves to help clean up the beach. Beyond the team-building aspect of this meeting between our Belgian and French employees, it was above all an action to contribute to the conservation of nature.

After just 2 hours, our team of over 20 people managed to clear no less than 51,5 kg of garbage from a beach which, at first sight, seemed relatively clean. However, a closer look reveals that some of the garbage has been there for far too long. Plastic in various forms, pieces of sailor's rope, cigarette butts and bits of glass: so many objects swallowed up and then spat out by the ocean.

This day took place the day after World Ocean Day, which raises questions about the actions we can take to reduce ocean pollution today.

This action echoes the acquisition last March of Philippe Geluck's famous Cat, named « On en a plein le dos ». The three-metre-high statue represents the Cat carrying a huge sphere filled with plastic waste above him, an image that reflects what we all witnessed last Friday...
