A unique cultural experience for nearly 500 young people at Golden Palace Comedie Centrale

On 26 and 27 January 2026, Golden Palace Comedie Centrale resonated in a slightly different way. Over the course of four performances, 490 pupils from 1st to 3rd primary grade, aged 6 to 9 and coming from schools in the Charleroi region, attended the show "Une autre Alice au Pays des Merveilles".

Discovering theatre in privileged conditions

For many of these children, it was their very first experience in a theatre: entering the venue, taking a seat in a red armchair, discovering a stage set and following a story brought to life by professional actors.

This is precisely what motivated the Golden Palace Comedie Centrale to launch this initiative: making theatre accessible to all, especially to pupils who do not always have the opportunity to enjoy such cultural moments during their school journey.

A complete welcome, designed with children in mind

Over the two days, everything was organised to ensure a smooth, immersive and friendly experience: transport for the classes, on-site welcome by the teams, a performance adapted to young audiences and a shared snack at the Table du Comedie. A simple yet tangible way of turning theatre into a space for openness, discovery and shared enjoyment.

A project supported by the City of Charleroi

This initiative was supported by the City of Charleroi and the office of the Alderman for Education, who welcomed the approach and encouraged this collaboration between cultural, institutional and educational stakeholders. Pupils from schools in Couillet, Charleroi, Dampremy, Marchienne-au-Pont and Jumet were thus able to enjoy an enriching cultural interlude at the crossroads of culture and education.

A performance venue serving culture and the region's youth

Through this project, Golden Palace Comedie Centrale illustrates its desire to put its facilities at the service of the region. By welcoming a young audience in a professional and caring environment, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting access to culture and supporting meaningful initiatives.
